When our boy was about 16 years old, we decided to offer him driving lessons so he could obtain his driving licence as soon as he turned 18. Our challenge at that time was to find a qualified instructor amongst all the registered and competitive driving instructors from the city. Their fees differ and they are not considered cheap. As we discussed our idea with our friends and neighbors, we were recommended by a family whose son owns a driving school, and he’s his own school’s instructor. His fees are not cheap either but he offered a guarantee or money-back. So we decided to hire him and signed the necessary contract for twenty lessons.

In a couple of days, the instructor came and took our boy for his first driving lesson. When they came back, the instructor assured us that it went very well and that he is confident that our boy would obtain his driving licence quickly. Then he added that there is a small supplement fee which he overlooked but required by the tax authority when issuing the driving licence. He assured us that this fee is cheap and affordable.

One day mid way through the twenty lessons, he was in a new car bought recently to increase his fleet of cars, so he told us. Seeing him with his new car, it sparkled off a thought that when our son had his driving licence in hand, he would also need a car to take him wherever he intended to go. This means that we have to envisage buying a new car in two years time.

So our son did obtain his driving licence without much effort, it was only then that he told us that he wasn’t enthusiastic about driving. Since he was under age, the law imposed that he must practice and drive at least a thousand kilometers to have his new driving licence validated. I have to accompany him during his practices, to be honest, I was quite stressed. After a few long distant driving on highways, he finally fulfilled this obligation.

As a matter of fact, he didn’t drive our car for long as he has to leave home for further studies in another city. Now he’s a grown up man and work for his living, he lives in the city. He refuses to buy a new car and is very happy with the public transports.
